Which of your designs or projects are you most excited
about right now and why?
I’m most excited about this new house we are designing in
the small town of Home, Washington. Naturally the project is called “HomeHouse”
and it’s on a beautiful waterfront site with views of Mount Rainier. The design
takes the program elements of the house and arranges them into a series of
volumes that both frame your movement through the site as well as your view of
the landscape. We are designing a walled garden on the west side of the living
room that will focus the view through the house to the water and create a
layered experience of indoor and outdoor rooms.
Tell us three words that embody your design
philosophy.
Responsive. Passionate. Misfit.
What's your favorite place in the Pacific Northwest and
why?
In, on, or viewing the water, with the first being my
favorite. Beautiful Colchuck Lake will reward you with all three after a short
hike. In late September, when the larch trees turn golden, I want to carry in a
big, bright yellow inflatable raft and float it out on the turquoise waters of
Colchuck for lunch on the lake.
Who or what are you inspired by right now?
Friends. I surround myself with people that are always
creating, making, designing, building. I love to collaborate with these people
and have hosted some of them in our Pioneer Square studio for Seattle’s First
Thursday art walk. Their work and presence in my life inspires me every
day.
What do you think of the color gray?
It’s on its way to being black or maybe sometimes just happily fading away.
