I popped into Click! Design That Fits yesterday to see their new featured jewelry artist, Sarah Loertscher, as well as some of their new goods from the New York International Gift Fair (stay tuned for a report on their Fair finds later!) Let me tell you, you want to check out Sarah's architectural jewelry and artwork now, and say you knew her when ... because her star is rising.
Growing up in Indiana, Sarah Loertscher had an obsession with sparkling, faceted things and remembers trying to find fool's gold in her parents driveway. She then studied metalsmithing in college. After an apprenticeship and a fellowship, Sarah moved to Seattle, where she now has a studio in the Sodo District. Her Indiana roots remain deep, though, and come out in her work as she reflects upon the vast Midwest landscape with its power lines, granaries, and silos framed against the sky. "These immense objects impressed upon me the feeling that structure itself is beauty," she says, "and the bare bones of a form are the often the beautiful parts."
Sarah will be at Click! next Thursday, Sept. 1 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for a reception for her prints, drawings, and installation pieces. And don't miss her at Click! on Saturday, Sept. 3 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a trunk show of her new jewelry.
